Dear friends, the free circulation of labor and capital at the global level is the foundation of today's trade system and accordingly of international relations.
In this context, the need for alternative financing is becoming more important every day as we have lots of needs and limited resources in our world.
The interest-based banking system has come to a serious dead end.
The distorted balances of the 2008 global financial crisis have not settled yet.
There is no such possibility in the near future.
As a person who always takes a dim view of interest, I would especially like to express that I am not surprised by this crisis.
Instead of making money from money, we have to turn to a financial system that is based on making money with labor, great effort, knowledge and trade.
Since 1854, when we took on the first external dept, we have been the heir of a country - sorry to say the Ottoman Empire - which exploited for years by banks, bankers and usurers.
In fact there were periods when interest was applied at a rate of 900 percent to the Ottomans.
We could not get rid of this interest during the Republican period either.
Remember the days when the interest rates in the 2001 crisis were 7500 percent; we experienced these things.
It was the years when tax revenues could not even pay the interest payments.
Today, of course, we are not confronted with such a deep trouble.
On the contrary we take the bull by the horns. And our steps have been justified.
Being one of the countries that have paid the highest real interest in the world, to speak openly, is a proof of this.
Dear friends, can we get rid of this? Yes we can. I take offense at this.
In the last 14 years that I have assumed the responsibility to govern Turkey, I could not gain ground in only a few subjects.
Among these, along with the imperfections of education and cultural policies, the inability to reduce real interest rates comes first. This is a self-criticism.
